FAQ | Register and Prepare Now — NorCal Hybrid
The Event 6 Questions
NorCal Hybrid is Northern California's first hybrid race event — a full-scale race simulation featuring 8 functional workout stations alternating with 8km of outdoor running. Held at Cal Expo in Sacramento on September 12–13, 2026, it is produced by the same team behind the NorCal Classic, one of the most established large-scale fitness competitions on the West Coast.
NorCal Hybrid is an independent race simulation presented by a Hybrid Racing Affiliate — not an officially licensed HYROX event. It uses the same race format, movement standards, and competitive structure athletes recognize globally, produced at the highest level. Think of it as the same experience, delivered by the West Coast's best event team.
Three things: outdoor running elements on Cal Expo's open grounds (not a warehouse treadmill), a true West Coast festival atmosphere with vendors, music, and energy all weekend, and production by the NorCal Classic team — a crew with a proven track record of athlete-first event execution at scale. This is not a startup race. This is built by experience.
Everyone. The Open division is designed to be challenging but accessible for well-trained recreational athletes of all experience levels — first-timers are absolutely welcome. The Pro division is for experienced athletes looking to compete for prize money. Doubles and Relay bring a team element for athletes who want to race with a partner or crew.
NorCal Hybrid is produced by the same organizers behind the NorCal Classic — a large-scale CrossFit Semifinal event with a proven track record of athlete-first logistics, professional judging and operations, and tight, well-communicated heat scheduling. You focus on racing. We handle the rest.
Yes — all three. Cal Expo's expansive footprint gives us room for a full vendor village, live music, and a spectator-friendly layout designed so your crew can follow every rep on the run course and at the stations. This is a festival-style race environment, not a bare-bones competition floor.
Race Format 5 Questions
Every race alternates between 1km outdoor runs and functional workout stations — 8 runs and 8 stations total, for approximately 8km of running in addition to the station work. The race begins with a 1km run and ends at the final station (Wall Balls). The station order is fixed and the same for all divisions.
The station order is fixed for all divisions:

01 Sled Push — 50 metres
02 Sandbag Carry — 100 metres
03 Ski Erg — 1,000 metres
04 Row Erg — 1,000 metres
05 Burpee Broad Jump — 100 metres
06 Goblet Walking Lunge — 100 metres (1 kettlebell)
07 Farmers Carry — 200 metres (2 kettlebells)
08 Wall Balls — 100 reps (final station)

A 1km run precedes every station. The race starts with a run and ends at Wall Balls.
Outdoors. Cal Expo's open grounds allow us to integrate real outdoor 1km run segments into the course — fresh air, open space, and spectators along the route. This is one of the defining features of NorCal Hybrid and what separates it from standard indoor hybrid race formats.
Finish times vary widely by division and ability level. Open division athletes typically finish between 70 and 110 minutes. Pro division athletes in the 55–80 minute range. Elite/podium times can be under 55 minutes. Full effort required throughout — pacing strategy on the runs is a major factor in your overall time.
Yes. Every station has defined movement standards and professional judges on the floor. Standards are consistent with the global hybrid race format. Athletes who fail to meet movement standards will receive no-reps and must complete additional reps before moving on. A full athlete briefing document with all movement standards will be distributed to registered athletes ahead of race day.

Relay — 4-athlete team. Each athlete takes a portion of the runs and stations.

Yes — prize money is awarded to top finishers in the Pro divisions (Pro Men and Pro Women). Full prize breakdown will be announced as registration opens. Open, Doubles, and Relay divisions compete for podium recognition and awards.
Open is the right choice for your first hybrid race. It's designed to be challenging but accessible — you don't need prior hybrid race experience to compete. If you're comfortable with the weights listed for your gender and can run 8km at a decent pace with effort, you're ready for Open. If you want to race with a friend, consider Doubles or Relay instead.
Registration 5 Questions
Register through Competition Corner at competitioncorner.net/events/19551/details. Select your division, complete payment, and you'll receive a confirmation email. Early registration is strongly recommended — the event is intentionally capped.
Registration is intentionally capped to protect race quality and athlete experience — clean heat windows, adequate equipment, and a course that doesn't feel crowded. When it's full, it's full. There is no waitlist. Early registration also locks in the lowest available pricing tier and gives you first access to division standards, course details, and heat scheduling.
Registration is tiered — prices increase as the event fills. The current pricing is available on the Competition Corner registration page. Registering early locks in the best available rate. Standard and late registration tiers will be announced as earlier tiers close.
Transfer and refund policies are managed through Competition Corner. Please review the Terms and Conditions before registering. For questions about your specific registration, contact us directly at morrison.blair@gmail.com.
Each athlete in a Doubles or Relay team registers individually through Competition Corner and selects their division and team name during registration. All team members must be registered under the same team name to be grouped together on race day. Full team registration instructions are available on the Competition Corner event page.

Venue & Logistics 4 Questions
1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95815. Located just off I-80 and Business 80, Cal Expo is easily accessible from the greater Sacramento area and the Bay Area. Open in Google Maps →
Yes — Cal Expo has expansive on-site parking. Parking details, athlete entrance gates, and check-in locations will be communicated to all registered athletes ahead of race day. We recommend arriving early to account for parking and check-in time, especially on Saturday when the first heats start at 8:00 AM.

Yes. Cal Expo's footprint allows for a full vendor village alongside the competition. Expect brand activations, nutrition vendors, gear, and food options throughout the event. Water stations will be available on the course. Specific vendor details will be announced closer to race day.
Race Day 4 Questions
— Registration confirmation and government-issued ID
— Athletic shoes (grippy soles strongly recommended for the sled push)
— Water and nutrition for your warm-up
— Chalk or grip aids (permitted at station)
— Your crew — bring the loudest people you know

A full athlete briefing package including movement standards, heat times, check-in instructions, and course map will be sent to all registered athletes before race day.
Shoes with a flat, grippy sole are highly recommended for the sled push. Running shoes with cushioning can reduce traction and make the sled push significantly harder. Many athletes opt for dedicated cross-training or weightlifting shoes for the station work and change to running shoes before the run segments — though some athletes complete the entire race in one pair. Practice with your chosen footwear before race day.
Yes — a warm-up area will be designated within the venue. Details on warm-up equipment availability and timing will be included in the pre-race athlete briefing package. Plan to arrive early enough to complete your warm-up routine before your scheduled heat time.
Results will be tracked via Competition Corner's timing and results platform. Athletes will be able to view their individual station times, run splits, and overall finish position in real time through the Competition Corner app or website. Final results will also be posted on the NorCal Hybrid website and social channels following the event.
